Beinvenido – welcome to Spain! Madrid is the city where your adventure begins. It’s a city full of elegant boulevards and manicured parks, as well as delicious cuisine. At your arrival, you will be picked up at the airport and taken to your hotel. There you will have a meeting with your leader and small group. You may want to visit the Museo del Prado if you arrive earlier. Then, explore modern Spanish masters such as Picasso and Dali in the Museo Reina Sofia. The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza displays eight centuries worth of European painting. Enjoy dinner with your group at a fantastic restaurant featuring Madrid’s most famous tapas.
Today, travel to Toledo. This unique city’s old town is situated on a high, craggy rock that is surrounded by the Tagus River. Toledo, a former capital city of Spain, is a place of great historical significance. It also holds many architectural treasures. Here you can see examples of buildings from all architectural periods throughout Spain’s history, including the Gothic and Baroque. You can now experience Toledo’s culture through a marzipan tasting. Although there are several countries competing for these rights, the Spanish claim that marzipan was created in Toledo. The sweet treat, made with almond meal, honey, and sugar, has been made in Toledo for generations and is considered one of the best in the world. Learn how it is made and what its significance is to Toledo. Then, try some. You can return to Madrid to enjoy a free afternoon.

You can explore the rest of the afternoon on your own. Optional visits to the Giralda Tower or the Seville Cathedral, which is Europe’s largest cathedral and where Christopher Columbus’ elevated grave was located, are possible.
Today, you will travel via private transfer to Cordoba. Here, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim influences can be found in architecture, culture, and food. The Mezquita, a rare location that has been used as both a cathedral and a mosque throughout history, is also found in Cordoba. The cathedral that stands in the middle of this magnificent mosque is a fascinating example of the interaction of Christian and Muslim cultures in Spain. This magnificent example of Islamic architecture will be revealed to you on a guided tour that continues beyond the Mezquita. Take a taxi from Cordoba to Granada. You will also learn about the importance and history of olive oil production in Andalucia by visiting an oil mill. The passionate owner of the family-owned business will guide you through the process of olive olive oil production. You can also taste olive marmalade and olive pate, as well as wine and olive pate. Check in at your hotel upon arrival. Perhaps you’ll head out with your group to discover Granada’s dining and drinking scene.

During an orientation walk, you’ll get to know Granada. Discover the fascinating history of the city, as well as the influences of Islam and Arab culture at every turn. Take a flight from Granada to Valencia. You will pass Elche, the capital of Bajo Vinalopo. Part of Elche’s historic quarter is preserved by its Baroque splendour and Muslim past. You will be able to walk around the largest and most exclusive palm tree grove in Europe. Your guide will tell you how the grove was created by the Phoenicians, and then expanded by the Arabs in both the 8th and the 9th centuries. The palmeral is made up of many parts that spread across the downtown. Next, it’s off to Valencia, Spain, which is the third-largest city. Here you can soak up its unique culture and visit the old town center that dates back over 2000 years. Upon arrival, explore the city to discover the unique mix of Christian, Muslim, and Roman influences found in the buildings, monuments, and stunning gardens.

Begin your day by driving south from Valencia to Albufera Lake. This lake is an important ecological site in the region. It is surrounded by beaches, dunes and lagoons and has Mediterranean forest. Six small islands are found on the lake. Visit El Palmar to see its traditional ‘barraca » houses. You will travel by boat to the lake’s middle and learn more about the region’s most important agricultural crop, the rice. Enjoy a paella, Valencia’s most popular dish, as your final meal. You have the rest of your day to explore Valencia. The City of Arts and Science is Calatrava’s main landmark. You can also visit a local café to sample the delicious treats Valencia has to offer, including artisan chocolates and horchata.

After a leisurely breakfast in Valencia, you will travel to Barcelona. Barcelona’s unique character and delicious Catalan cuisine blend seamlessly with a ground breaking art scene, Gothic architecture and superb dining to make it a city that you will never forget. Today is your day to explore Barcelona on your own. Perhaps you’d like to visit one of the city’s historic corners or galleries, or maybe just take in the bizarre La Sagrada Familia Basilica by Gaudi. Catalonia’s heart is known for its gastronomic excellence. This evening, you will enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant together. Enjoy the last night of your trip with some delicious regional foods such as olives, pickled garlic and lomo Iberico de Belotta.

Say goodbye to Spain, and welcome to Morocco! Transfer to Barcelona Airport to take a short, unaccompanied flight to Casablanca. An Intrepid representative will meet you at Casablanca Airport and transfer you to your hotel. The adventure begins at 6 p.m. with a welcome meeting. The Villa des Arts is a wonderful option for those who arrive in Casablanca with plenty of time. The stunning Art Deco gallery hosts many exhibitions of international and contemporary Moroccan art. The Museum of Judaism offers a fascinating and unique experience in cultural experiences. Enjoy a delicious banquet-style meal with your group in the courtyard of a beautiful riad to celebrate the start of a new adventure. Moroccan cuisine is a major part of its cultural heritage. Tonight, you can try traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagine and couscous.
This is a combined trip so your group leader will change and your group composition may change. A group meeting will take place to discuss the next phase of your itinerary. This is a great opportunity to meet new travellers and we recommend you attend. Today you’ll visit the majestic Mosque of Hassan II, one of Casablanca’s most iconic sites. The Mosque of Hassan II is second in size only to Mecca’s great mosque. It sits on both land and over the sea and is the only open-to-all religious site here. You can then drive to Meknes from Casablanca, and explore the beautiful streets of Medina, the old walled area of the city. It’s a unique experience to see this less-known medina while the locals go about their day.
Continue onward to the Roman ruins of Volubilis that are dotted with mosaics. A local guide will take you around the area and help you picture the bustling city once it was. A picnic lunch with fresh bread, cheese, seasonal fruits, and olives from the local market is available. Continue to Fes in the afternoon for your next two nights.

Today, you will discover Fes’s massive, well-preserved medieval city. It is the mother of all medinas. As your guide takes you through the narrow streets and alleyways, walk past donkeys loaded with goods and discover the speciality sections of the souk. It’s easy to picture yourself in the Middle Ages as you pass historic khans, dye pits and stalls filled with fragrant herbs, spices and the sounds of copper craftmen at work. You can explore the city by visiting the beautiful inner courtyards of the centuries-old Islamic school El-Attarine Madrasa or Funduq al-Najjarin. This is a magnificent 18th-century hotel.
You are in for a surprise as you are welcomed into the home and served pastilla dinner by a local family. As you talk with your hosts about Fes, learn how to make the famous Moroccan pie.
You can travel from Fes to Bin el-Ouidane with many stops along the way to enjoy the changing Moroccan landscape. For a memorable experience, visit an Amazigh family (Berber) in the Khenifra area for a unique insight into their way of living. The family will show you how to make mint tea, and they will prepare a delicious home-cooked meal using local ingredients. You will learn about their traditions, customs and how life is in the Atlas Mountains. You’ll later arrive at Bin el-Ouidane. This small settlement is perfectly situated on the banks of the lake and surrounded by sheer rock faces. You can spend a relaxing afternoon floating in the idyllic swimming pool, or taking in the stunning views from the terrace.

Today, you’ll be heading out on the water and hopping into a speedboat so that you can see more of the turquoise lakes and the surrounding rocky gorges. You can cool off by taking a dip in the calm waters or just enjoying the beautiful views. Before returning to the hotel, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in a shaded spot with a view of the lake. You can spend the rest of the day as you please. Enjoy a relaxing massage at the spa or a jacuzzi session at the hotel’s health spa.
Today, you’ll travel from Bin el-Ouidane towards Marrakech. You don’t need to rush, the scenery is always fascinating and there will be a stop at the Ouzoud Falls. Arriving in Marrakech, you will be taken to Djemaa El-Fna Square, which is the city’s most famous landmark and one of the biggest public spaces in the entire world. To get to know the vibrant city, join your Trip Leader for an orientation tour. The square becomes a hub of activity as the day turns to night. Explore the evening. You might choose to have dinner on the balcony of one of the restaurants overlooking the bustling square and the Koutoubia Mosque.

Meet your guide today for breakfast and a tour of the Old Medina. This will take you through the souks, which are the heartbeat of the city. You will find tranquil courtyards filled in orange blossom scent and many chambers and salons within Bahia Palace. The Koutoubia Mosque is only for Muslims, but the famous minaret makes it a must-see. Continue on through the old medina streets to Djemaa El-Fna. You can only really enjoy the food in this area if you are a local. Your local guide will take your to a special tasting session, where you will be able to try some seasonal delights like freshly squeezed orange juice or fried Moroccan donuts. You can explore the rest of your day at your own pace. You can visit Le Jardin Secret, an old medina garden that has a beautiful courtyard, or go back to the medina to practice your haggling skills. Perhaps you’d like to join your group for a farewell dinner. Your leader can recommend great local restaurants worth a toast.
